Waste and recycling

Your new home will either have individual waste and recycling bins, or waste and recycling bins that are shared with other residents.

If you are moving into a property with shared bins, there should be:

  • A labelled bin for mixed recycling
  • A labelled bin for glass
  • A labelled bin for non-recyclable household waste

If you are moving into a property with individual household bins, there should be:

  • A grey bin for recycling
  • A black caddy for glass that sits within your grey recycling bin
  • A green bin for non-recyclable household waste

Brown bins are for garden waste. Our garden waste collection is an optional, paid-for service.

At the time of going to print, we are in the process of planning for separate food waste collections. When this is introduced, details will be widely available.

If your new property does not have the required bins or glass caddy, you can request replacements free of charge within the first 3 months of moving in by calling 0345 2000 103 (press option 1).

To find your bin collection day and learn more about the waste disposal services available to you in North Tyneside, please visit the Council website: www.northtyneside.gov.uk.

If so check out our A-Z of rubbish and interactive map of reuse and recycling points in the Borough.

Tenants are entitled to two free bulky waste collections per year. This is for things such as large furniture items, mattresses, or white goods. Call 0345 2000 103 for details.
