Things you may need or want to buy
When moving into a new home, there are some things that you may want, or need, to buy. A couple things to consider would be:
- Carpet or laminate flooring
- Blinds or curtains
- Kitchen appliances, kettle, toaster, microwave
- Cups, plates and cutlery
- Table and chairs
- Sofa
- Bed and bedding
- Towels
- White goods (fridge, cooker, washer)
- Wardrobe and storage
- TV
- Vacuum cleaner
- Iron and ironing board
Check out Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, Freecycle, larger charity shops such as British Heart Foundation and St Oswald's, eBay and Vinted to find some
good deals on furniture and homeware. When using these, be aware of scammers. A couple of key things to look out for when buying are:
- Trusted sellers
- Lots of reviews
- Good quality pictures
- Try to bank transfer and not pay cash
- Go with someone to pick up your item
- Don’t share sensitive information such as bank details, address, national insurance number
