Neighbourhood housing and tenancy

Guide to how we manage tenancies

Terminations

Pre Termination Visits and Terminations

All tenants must give the council four weeks notice in line with their tenancy agreement

If a tenant wants to terminate their tenancy they need to make contact with their Neighbourhood Housing Officer via email or telephone, the officer will then arrange to visit the property to complete a termination of tenancy form and discuss any support the council can offer to help them to remain in their home if possible

Once the four week termination period has expired the tenant must hand in their keys to their local hub - insert details, if the keys are not received by 12 noon on the agreed date the Neighbourhood Officer will attempt contact with the tenant and termination period will be extended until the keys are received and rent charged

If a tenant or their representative hands in keys without completing a termination of tenancy form the Neighbourhood Housing Officer will attempt contact to discuss the reasons for this, if we are unable to contact the tenant or their representative the property will be treat as "abandoned" the council will then take legal steps to recover possession of the property, rent will be charged during this time.
