Neighbourhood housing and tenancy

Guide to how we manage tenancies

Garden maintenance

Keeping gardens tidy helps our communities look their best and is a requirement of your Tenancy Agreement.

The team completes regular estate inspections and takes action to address any garden issues such as overgrown grass / bushes, we also respond to complaints from neighbours, members of the public and elected members.

If a customer’s garden is not in line with the expected standard outlined in the tenancy agreement the first step is for the officer to knock on the door, leave a card then follow this up with a letter.

The team provides customers with support via the garden care scheme which is open to tenants aged 65+ or those with a disability for which they are receiving a related benefit (where there is nobody else age 18+ such as a family member, household member or friend who can support with this).  If you would like to apply for this scheme please contact 0345 2000 102 or email neighbourhoodhousing@northtyneside.gov.uk

Council tenants are entitled to two free bulky waste collections per year which could include removing garden waste.

The council provides a garden tool hire scheme.  If you require equipment including mowers, strimmers and tools please contact: 0191 643 7515 or email us at neighbourhooddelivery@northtyneside.gov.uk

If customers do not respond to our contact or take steps to address the garden issue we may take legal action.
