Storage and disposal of household waste
As of 1 October 2018, a mandatory condition is attached to all HMO licences requiring the licence holder to comply with any scheme provided by the local housing authority relating to the storage and disposal of household waste at the HMO pending collection.
- North Tyneside Council provides household waste collection. Details are available on the Council’s website.
- The licence holder must ensure:
- Suitable refuse storage facilities and sufficiently sized receptacles are provided at the start of the licence and at the beginning of every new tenancy.
- Clear verbal and written instructions are given to each resident regarding:
- What waste goes into which bin
- Collection days
- How and when to present bins for collection
- When to return bins to the property
- Disposal of bulky items (e.g. furniture, white goods)
- A record of this information must be produced upon request by the Council.
