Key Achievements 2024- 2025
Carbon Emissions
- Council - Since our base year of 2010/11 the emissions of North Tyneside Council have reduced by 60%
The Sources of these emissions are Heating 40%, Electricity 35%, Fleet 19%, Transmission and distribution losses 3%, Staff business travel 2%, and water 1%.
- Borough – The emissions from the whole Borough have decreased by 49.76% since 2005.
The sources of these emissions are Domestic 34%, Transport 35%, Commercial businesses 15%, Industry 11%, the Public Sector 4% and agriculture 1%.
- Scope 3 emissions pose a data collection challenge as they are not directly controlled by the Council. There is currently no requirement to report on these emissions however the authority is currently undertaking research and evaluation of the options available.
Climate Finance
The Authority has secured a range of external grant funding to support Net Zero projects. The total value of these for the last year is £10.9m.
Other Highlights include:
- Since 2022, we have installed over 5,500 energy efficient measures in our social housing stock. This includes 640 solar PV installations,
2,462 boiler replacements, and 865 loft insulation top ups.
- In partnership with the North East Community Forest, we have planted almost 15,000 trees since 2021. This is the equivalent of 35 hectares.
Progress within each workstream
Each of the authority’s workstreams have a number of actions to deliver. Some are short term measures, some medium and some are longer in duration. The infographics below demonstrate how the authority is performing against our actions as set out in the 2020 Action Plan (Green = complete, Orange = In Progress, Red = Behind Schedule).
