Introduction

This 2025 update of the Climate Change Net Zero Action Plan provides evidence of the work that has occurred over the past year. We recognise that climate change is happening faster than anticipated and as a Council we have adopted a ‘no regrets approach’ since our declaration of the Climate Emergency in 2019. That means any measures we adopt are beneficial regardless of whether we meet our ambitious goals. By addressing the issue of net-zero emissions* to reduce the future impacts of a changing climate, our work can and has, delivered not only a reduction in carbon emissions, but it has also had the benefit in a range of other environmental, economic and social gains too. These are known as co-benefits and have included savings on energy bills, supporting green skills and job creation, public health benefits from active travel, pollution reduction, as well as local green space enhancement for nature from tree planting.
