Responsibilities
5.1 Housing and Property Services
To achieve the aims of this policy Housing and Property Services will:
- ensure the service meets the aims of the 2010 Equality Act, Public Sector Equality Duty and the commitments set out in the Authority’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy
- meet regulatory requirements by understanding and responding to our tenants’ and residents’ needs
- retain all information in line with North Tyneside Council’s privacy statement
- ensure all our customers receive services in accordance with our customer promise
- give straightforward and clear advice about services
- use our equality impact assessment process to help us challenge, review, monitor and improve our services, working practices and resource allocation to meet our anticipatory disability equality duty
- ensure staff have training on vulnerability and protected characteristics and how best to respond
- propose appropriate reasonable adjustments in consultation with the tenant or resident
- always offer support and seek to make reasonable adjustments to achieve a resolution before the option of taking proportionate enforcement action is considered
5.2 Tenant and resident responsibilities
- To help achieve the aims of this policy tenants and residents will be supported and encouraged to let Housing and Property Services know about any vulnerabilities, to enable the services to offer support and make reasonable adjustments to enable tenants and residents to sustain their tenancy.
- We are clear that tenants with a vulnerability must adhere to their tenancy agreement.
