Malicious attacks

Malicious attacks may happen at any time. Nationally, we have seen many examples including the 2017 Manchester Arena Bombing. North Tyneside Council, alongside its police colleagues, remains vigilant on this front. The Council is key to the delivery of the Government’s counter terrorism strategy – CONTEST. This strategy aims to prevent terrorist attacks and to mitigate their impact.

CONTEST aims to:

1.       Pursue: stop terror attacks.

2.      Protect: protect us from attacks.

3.     Prepare: reduce the impact of attacks.

4.     Prevent: stop people becoming terrorists or supporters or terrorism.

Fortunately, attacks are rare. However, terror attacks are high-profile and often fill the news. This reminds us of the real risk we face. The police and security services work tirelessly to stop attacks and keep the public safe.

More information on this can be found in the prevent section.
