Children missing education
Contact the school if you are having problems with your child attending school. The school can help you to resolve any issues or difficulties.
Sometimes, the school may need to involve other services to provide help and support.
All children of compulsory school age must get suitable full-time education.
Parents are responsible for making sure this happens. To do this register your child at a school. Ensure they attend. Or make other arrangements to educate your child other than at school.
Your child’s school will check pupil attendance. The school will want to help you if you have a problem. Make an appointment to talk to your child’s school if you have concerns about your child’s attendance.
The school may ask North Tyneside Council to consider taking action against you if:
- attendance is poor without a good reason
- attendance does not show signs of improvement
- you do not accept the help and support offered.
If you are aware of a child who is not in school or learning from home then you should tell us as soon as possible by make a report online or calling us on (0191) 643 8392.
