Our application process
1. Search & apply for a role
When looking to apply for a role with us, you will need to create an account before completing an application form. To do this, first find a role that you would like to apply for, you will then be prompted to either log in with an existing account or to create a new one. By creating an account with us, you can apply for a variety of roles, whilst maintaining previously submitted information such as your address, contact information and qualifications. Creating an account is a straight forward process, but remembering your password sometimes isn't - so please make sure you securely store this!
Once you have found a role you would like to apply for, we recommend you reach out to schedule an informal conversation with the hiring manager. This will give you better insight to the role and help you tailor your application appropriately.
Our roles will ask for an application where we ask you to set out your experience and suitability for the role. An application allows you to tell us what makes you unique. We want you to be able to shine throughout the recruitment process, so if at any stage you need any support, then reach out to us and let us know.

2. Shortlisting
Once the advert closes, our hiring managers will screen all applications.
If more than one vacancy is being advertised, or we are experiencing a high volume of applications, sometimes we might start pre-screening applications ahead of the closing date – so keep an eye on your email even when the role is live.
3. Getting to know each other.
We know you are so much more than just your application, so depending on the role you are applying for, the hiring manager might invite you for an informal conversation to talk through your application, experiences and the role. This is also a great time to find out more about us as an organisation and what makes working with us so great!

4. The interview
It is such a great achievement being invited for an interview, so congratulations on getting this far!
Our interviews can vary depending on the role you’re applying for, full information regarding the type of interview will be in your invite letter – but if you have any queries, just drop us a message.
We try to do all of our interviews in person, after all, we really want to get to know you and for you to embrace the working environment. It is an interview for you to decide if this is a right fit for you, as much as it is for us.
Remember at this stage, the panel will ask to see your right to work information, so make sure you have this handy.
5. Offer
Congratulations! We’ve made our decision so now it’s time to make yours.
We will contact you to talk through the offer of employment. Our offers are usually always conditional, and relies on you passing your occupational health assessment, relevant security checks and references being satisfactory. Only when you have accepted will we look to carry out these checks.
You will also receive it in writing so you can read through it and make an informed decision.

6. Onboarding
Once you’ve given us the thumbs up, you’ll receive everything you need to start your pre-employment checks in our Onboarding Portal. We will also work with you to agree a start date and find a time where you can come into the workplace and meet your new team.
You’ll also receive a welcome pack that gives you lots of information about North Tyneside Council as an employer, that will ease you into your first few weeks with us.
