Reasonable Adjustments

It is important to us that our colleagues reflect the borough in which they operate in. This means we want to remove any barriers for people applying to join us.

We are proud to be a Disability Confident Leader, and there for you if you have a disability, health condition, and/or are neurodiverse, or there are other reasons why you’d benefit from a reasonable adjustment.

Being People First means we are committed to making reasonable adjustments whenever possible, to ensure that people with a disability have equal opportunities in the recruitment and selection process and can work comfortably in their day-to-day role.

If you are applying for a role with us, you can request a reasonable adjustment, whilst completing your job application. You can do this by either stating your required adjustment on the application form or by contacting the hiring manager directly, when approached for interview.

What can a Reasonable Adjustment look like?

  • Providing the application documents in a different format
  • Access a hearing loop
  • Allowing extra time during interview
  • Ensuring that information is provided in an accessible format
  • Ensuring your interview environment is accessible
  • Enabling captions on video calls
  • Providing training or additional guidance.

Guaranteed Interview Scheme

Our Guaranteed Interview scheme ensures that candidates who meet the essential criteria for the post, as set out in the job description of the role they are applying for will be interviewed. This scheme is available to those who identify as the following:

  • Having a disability, health condition, and/or are neurodiverse
  • Those who have, or are currently serving in the Armed Forces
  • Those who have lived in a system of care, otherwise known as ‘Care Leavers’

If you would like to apply under the Guaranteed Interview Scheme, please indicate this on the application form for the role you are applying to.

Please be mindful that a guaranteed interview does not guarantee employment.

The Guaranteed Interview Scheme is a key part of our People First Strategy and supports our commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in a variety of separate ways, including but not limited to:

  • Breaking Down Barriers - Ensuring that underrepresented groups have direct access to interview opportunities, helping to overcome potential biases.
  • Encouraging Diverse Talent Pools - Encouraging applications from a broader range of candidates, enriching the talent pool with diverse perspectives and experiences.
  • Raising Awareness and Accountability - Implementing the scheme demonstrates our commitment to ED&I (Equality, Diversity & Inclusion), setting the standard for fair and inclusive recruitment practices.
