Guide to home education

Our involvement

Our role is to provide support and guidance to parents who are home educating their children. This often takes place through face-to-face meetings.

We have a duty to ensure all children are receiving a suitable education too.

If this doesn't appear to be the case, we will work with parents to address this. This can include advice and guidance on improving the level of education.

If a child is not getting a good education, we can serve a notice. It will require a parent or carer to show us that they are providing the right education.

After this we can issue a 'School Attendance Order'. It will name a specific school the parent must register their child at.

Not following the order is a crime. It may lead to prosecution, an application for an Education Supervision Order at the family court, or both.
