About conservation areas
Conservations areas are designated areas where special restrictions are imposed on development in order to retain the character of the area. Any development proposal in a conservation area will be expected to have the utmost regard for the character of the surrounding environment.
Conservation Areas in North Tyneside
There are 17 conservation areas within North Tyneside. Each conservation area (except Backworth) has a character appraisal that should be consulted for guidance on proposed development.
