Reducing your consumption
You may make you want to change your drinking habits if you:
- understand how many units you’re consuming
- realise that alcohol can cause risks to your health and unhealthy weight gain
You can make informed choices and start to make positive changes to your lifestyle. That will limit the impact that alcohol has on you and the people around you.
Men and women are advised not to drink more than 14 units of alcohol a week. This is equal to six pints of average strength beer a week. Regularly drinking more than this can increase the risk to your health. The more you drink, and the more often, the greater the risk to your health.
Binge drinking is drinking heavily over a short space of time. Binge drinking poses risks to your health and your personal safety.
