NTSP partnership for employment and skills

Purpose 

The North Tyneside Employability Strategy Group acts as the Employment and Skills Partnership and provides a collaborative forum to share information and intelligence and provide leadership and strategic direction for employability priorities in North Tyneside.

Objectives

  • To maximise employment and skills opportunities for residents by using local data, exploiting combined expertise and targeting resources
  • To inform and develop North Tyneside’s Employment and Skills Strategy
  • To jointly set priorities for, co-ordinate and plan skills and employability programmes across the borough with a particular focus on disadvantaged residents and neighbourhoods
  • Use local intelligence and data to ensure all partners understand key barriers to employment and training for residents e.g. long term sickness / poor health to inform our local strategic approach.
  • To direct delivery and address any issues highlighted by the Employability Partnership Group
  • To identify actions that enable and encourage greater collaboration to address employment and skills development priorities in North Tyneside
  • To ensure North Tyneside partners have appropriate representation and can provide advice on employment, adult learning and skills policy and respond to consultations either as a collective or inform responses from North Tyneside Council or the North East Combined Authority
  • To increase participation in adult and wider learning opportunities, including volunteering and increase the number of adults entering employment
  • To understand and support partners to meet the employment and training needs of residents, communities and employers in North Tyneside
  • To ensure appropriate links are in place with education to support the development of pathways for young people into employment
  • To promote, publicise and advocate for employment, adult learning and skills in the borough and nationally
  • To co-ordinate the response to bidding opportunities and national and regional initiatives to secure additional funds and increase employability, adult learning and skills opportunities in line with the partnership’s priorities for North Tyneside
  • To co-ordinate employer engagement strategies within the borough and minimise the duplication of activity
  • To monitor and review the performance of the partnership’s outcomes
  • To focus on gainful employment for all our customers groups and quality services to employers.

Frequency of meetings

Meetings will occur every quarter with the exception of more regular interventions as required. 

Reporting and Governance

The Strategy Group is chaired by the Cabinet Member for Inclusion, Employment and Skills. The deputy chair for the Group is the Senior Manager for Employment and Skills at North Tyneside Council. Secretariat is be provided by the NTC Employment and Skills Service.

Employment and Skills Theme Updates will be provided from the Strategy Group to the North Tyneside Strategic Partnership (NTSP) Executive Board on a regular basis.

Information and updates on activities will also be reported into relevant forums including but not exclusively:

  • North Tyneside Health and Wellbeing Board
  • North Tyneside SEND Strategic Board
  • North East Combined Authority – Employment and Skills Groups and Boards

Membership

Membership will be reviewed regularly to ensure that there are representatives from the key organisations involved in the employment and skills agenda in North Tyneside. Current membership organisations includes:
