Guide to emergency plans

Your community

You and your neighbours know your community the best. You should take advantage of this before, during and after emergencies.

Your community can prepare for emergencies by developing a community emergency plan. These plans provide guidance and advice to residents before and during emergencies. Community plans provide residents with self-help measures. Due to the scale and nature of emergencies, responders can sometimes be delayed. Anything your community can do to support itself will help response and recovery.

Community emergency plans can include simple measures. The plan may name an individual in your community as an emergency point of contact. The plan may also include:

·        A local emergency response team.

·        Community buildings to be used as a place of safety.

·        Skills and expertise within the community.

·        Special equipment and vehicles within the community.

·        Vulnerable premises and people within the community.

You can find more information, including a community emergency plan toolkit.

Councillors are likely to attend the scene of an emergency when it is safe to do so to support you and your needs. Councillors can help to report issues and direct enquiries to the Council.
