Visits and reviews
6 week new tenant visit
Every new tenant receives a home visit within the first six weeks of their tenancy, this is to check they are settling in well and to discuss any support they may need to sustain their tenancy
8 month visit
Introductory tenants receive a visit 8 months after the commencement of tenancy date, if the visit is completed satisfactorily the tenancy becomes a secure tenant 12 months after the commencement of tenancy date, if the introductory tenancy is not being conducted satisfactorily the introductory tenancy may be extended for a further six months
If a secure tenant is identified as requiring support with arrears / other tenancy issues the officer will visit to assess how we can assist and make any referrals
Tenancy home visits
Our Neighbourhood Housing Officers carry out tenancy home visits to help us get to know our tenants better, check the overall condition of the property and see if there are any outstanding issues or repairs.
These visits are invaluable in finding out if anyone in the household needs any additional support, which we can help arrange. At the visit, we’ll chat about your tenancy and confirm who is currently living in your home, making sure we have the right information for everyone. We will update your contact information, noting any important details such as disabilities, health considerations or communication preferences. This helps us make sure our services are adapted to your individual needs.
Generally, these visits take around an hour, though they can be a little shorter for single residents and a little longer for larger households. These conversations are truly important for us to build a better understanding of our tenants and we’re keen to discuss any concerns or challenges you might be experiencing regarding your wellbeing or tenancy. Our aim is to provide helpful suport where needed, whether it’s gudance with finances, tips for home management, assistance with health concerns, or pathways to employment and training.
You will receive a letter in advance with an appointment time. If it’s not convenient for you, please do give us a call to rearrange it using the number on your letter.
Estate walkabouts
Each Neighbourhood Housing Officer completes a bimonthly walkabout their patch area with elected members and tenants. Tenants are welcome to join their Neighbourhood Housing Officer on one of their regular walkabouts. These cover a few streets at a time and are an opportunity to ask questions, report any issues and help improve your estate.
During the walkabout the officer will note any areas of concern and take the required action or report to colleagues in other departments if necessary. We have committed to visiting every street in the borough at least once throughout the year.
You can view the programme here: https://haveyoursay.northtyneside.gov.uk/estate-walkabouts or call 0191 643 6384 for details.
