Born here, 10th January 1915
First female graduate of Naval Architecture from Durham University. First woman admitted as a student to the North East Coast Institution of Engineers and Shipbuilders. Helped to design HMS Anson, HMS Albion, the Leda and the D-Day landing vessels. Died 9 March 2002.
