What we do

Council role in an emergency

We are here to support you and the community before, during and after an emergency. This is our promise. We care.

Before

We work with our partners to prepare for all types of emergencies that threaten North Tyneside. We train and exercise to ensure we are as prepared as possible.

During

Alongside the emergency services, we respond to any major incidents across the borough.

After

We recover. We get back to normality as soon as possible.

The Resilience Team ensures that the Council meets its statutory duties under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.   The Civil Contingencies Act provides a statutory framework for agencies involved in emergency planning, response and recovery.

The Act sets out what tasks should be performed and how co-operation between agencies should be co-ordinated.  North Tyneside Council is a Category One Responder. We work with the Emergency Services, NHS and other agencies. These partnerships are coordinated through the Northumbria Resilience Forum.

You can contact the Resilience Team by emailing emergencyplanning@northtyneside.gov.uk (Monday - Friday during normal office hours).
