Malicious attacks

Be prepared for terror attacks

Attacks are rare, but we are not complacent about keeping you safe. In the event of a terrorist attack, remember to RUN, HIDE, TELL:

  • Run – to a safe place. This is a far better option than surrendering, negotiating or fighting. If there’s nowhere else to go then;
  • Hide – it’s better to hide than confront. Remember to turn your phone to silent. Barricade your location if possible. Only when it’s safe to do so;
  • Tell – call the police on 999.

You should remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or behaviour to the confidential Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789 321 (in an emergency, always call 999.)

If someone you know is at risk of being radicalised and / or drawn into terrorism, you can refer them to Prevent. This is part of the Government’s Counter-Terrorism Strategy (CONTEST.) Prevent aims to stop vulnerable people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. Find more information, including a referral form, on the Council’s website.

Become a CT Citizen by completing free ACT e-learning. This package provides nationally recognised counter terrorism guidance. ACT e-learning increases the public’s understanding of current terrorist methodology and helps mitigate against this risk. Take this training via the ProtectUK website.

You can report suspicious activity to MI5.

And view terrorism threat levels on the MI5 website.
