Installation requirements

Please note, only some types of doors can accommodate cat flaps and be returned to the original condition by the installation of a replacement panel. Make sure that the person who is fitting the cat flap is qualified to carry out this work. The cost of any remedial work arising from the installation of a cat flap will be borne by the tenant.

  • Always check the door can accommodate both a cat flap and be returned to its original condition if removed – if it can’t, do not fit the cat flap.
     
  • Permission will not be given for cat flaps to front doors in conservation areas.
     
  • The door must not be a fire door. The door must communicate with the outside and not an internal communal area.
     
  • The door shall not be a communal door.
     
  • The council do not accept responsibility for any theft relating to the installation of the cat flap.
     
  • The cat flap should be installed by a suitably qualified installer.
     
  • Damage as a result of the installation shall be repaired by the tenant, or repaired by NTC and the tenant will bear the cost.
     
  • The installation must be returned to its original state on termination of the tenancy and the cost for the removal and remedial work will be borne by the tenant.
     
  • Permission may be rescinded should the installation fall into disrepair or cause nuisance to other residents.

Responsibility for maintenance

Tenant

Condition of approval requires that the tenant who applies for the approval is solely responsible for repairs, maintenance, and related upkeep of the installation, in line with Section 9.3.1 of the Tenancy Agreement for the duration of their tenancy.

The installation of a cat flap does not qualify under the Compensation for Improvements Regulations.

On completion
